The drive for lower emissions through weight reduction has increased the use of plastics in the automotive industry.  Static electricity must be controlled to prevent quality and safety issues whilst maintaining productivity.

Static can be an issue in injection moulding, thermoplastics, blow moulding, vacuum forming, paint spraying, rubber and extruded parts.  Ensuring that vehicle bodies and plastic components are static and dust-free before painting or sealing is particularly critical for reasons of quality and cost control.

Industry Applications
Neutralising Static in Automotive Plastic Extrusions

When automotive plastic extrusions and mouldings cool, a static charge is generated. This static charge attracts contaminants and can result in product rejects and shocks to operators.

Remove Static in Structural Foam Applications

Structural foam components are used because of their high strength to weight ratio. However, cooling and separation from the mould tool results in statically charged products.

Reduce Contaminants in Automotive Plastic Mouldings

Static electricity causes contamination issues throughout the injection moulding process.

Contaminant Removal Before Spraying

To prepare for the best possible finish and to reduce product rejection, all surface contaminants must be removed from the automotive component prior to painting.

Cleaning and Neutralising Automotive Light Clusters

Static charges on plastic optical products will attract dust and other airborne contaminants. It is important to neutralise static charges at all stages of the manufacturing process to maintain quality.
